Glass Series 2.0
Mixed Media on 3 layers of glass with backing - Framed

About the Artwork: The Transition reflects the artist’s personal experience of navigating a profound period of change. A deep, swampy blue envelops the composition, creating an underwater atmosphere where forms appear to either drift away or move toward the central head, symbolising the fluid, uncertain motion of transformation.

Within this space, organic and geometric shapes intertwine, layered with colour, form, and shadow to evoke both turbulence and release. Chrome silver blobs punctuate the composition, representing the idea of silver linings and the tangible weight of difficult, value-laden decisions. In contrast, coral-like and cactus-inspired forms suggest the raw, prickly discomfort of growth and the pain often inherent in change.

Distinct from other works in the Glass Series, Jenna applies paint to the reverse of the front glass layer, producing a mask-like effect that amplifies depth and duality. The mask embodies the calm outward expression we present to the world, while the layered depths behind reveal the emotional complexity and vulnerability that accompany life’s major transitions.

About the Artist: Jenna Ingram is a versatile artist who earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from Canterbury University in 2007. Her creative journey has spanned various mediums and styles, including portraiture, landscapes and cityscapes. However, over the past eight years, she has dedicated her practice exclusively to urban art through her signature character, Jen Heads. This "mask" has undergone numerous iterations, reflecting Ingram's lived and artistic evolution. In addition to her work as an artist, Ingram works full-time as a Picture Framer, is a mother and has also been instrumental in managing her and her husband's business, Fiksate Gallery (now online only) for the last 10 years,  further contributing to the urban contemporary art community.
