About the Artwork:

In Risen to a Muse, Jen Heads captures a layered portrait of Christchurch's resilience and transformation through the lens of one iconic building on Manchester Street. Once a weathered, graffiti-covered shell that stood defiantly through the earthquakes, this structure now gleams as the newly minted Muse Hotel.

Jenna’s signature character - the 'Jen Head' - holds within the building's former facade - a dreamscape of memory and decay. The exterior of this area depicts the building’s current, remodeled form, with soft pink tones nodding to its modern incarnation as The Muse. Through this juxtaposition of old and new, the work invites reflection on what is remembered, what is lost, and what rises from ruin.

Risen to a Muse is both tribute and time capsule - reminding us that behind every polished surface lies a deeper history. It honours the grit and grace of a city that continues to rebuild, while gently asking us not to forget what came before.

About the Artist: Jenna Ingram is a versatile artist who earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from Canterbury University in 2007. Her creative journey has spanned various mediums and styles, including portraiture, landscapes and cityscapes. However, over the past eight years, she has dedicated her practice exclusively to urban art through her signature character, Jen Heads. This nature-inspired "mask" has undergone numerous iterations, reflecting Ingram's lived and artistic evolution. In addition to her work as an artist, Ingram has also been instrumental in managing her and her husband's business, Fiksate Gallery, further contributing to the urban contemporary art community.
