Jen Heads - Dissociation
Glass Series 1.0
283mm W x 303mm H
Mixed media on 3 layers of glass, framed in a satin white profile with spacers.
About the Artwork: The first work in Jen Heads' new glass series, Disassociation, marks a pivotal moment in the artist’s evolving practice. This intimate piece consists of three layers of glass: the front features a perfectly symmetrical black vinyl-cut decal, while the two layers behind it contain floating fragments of detail and colour.
The title, Disassociation, speaks to both the transparent nature of the glass and the drifting, layered elements that subtly rise and veer to the left of the head, suggesting a gentle detachment. Sharp lines blend with organic shapes; literal references intermingle with loosely painted, gestural marks. Together, they form an evocative metaphor for the fragmentation of thought and emotion.
The soft, subdued colour palette hints at an emotional retreat to a calmer, safer space. It contrasts with the still, stark vinyl head on the surface, perhaps frozen or constrained, while the background elements suggest movement, memory, and the longing for escape.
About the Artist: Jenna Ingram is a versatile artist who earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from Canterbury University in 2007. Her creative journey has spanned various mediums and styles, including portraiture, landscapes and cityscapes. However, over the past eight years, she has dedicated her practice exclusively to urban art through her signature character, Jen Heads. This nature-inspired "mask" has undergone numerous iterations, reflecting Ingram's lived and artistic evolution. In addition to her work as an artist, Ingram has also been instrumental in managing her and her husband's business, Fiksate Gallery, further contributing to the urban contemporary art community.
