Jen Heads - Fully Submerged

Glass Series 1.0

283mm W x 303mm H

Mixed media on 3 layers of glass and backing. Spray-painted frame and spacers.

About the Artwork: Fully Submerged drifts into an underwater dreamscape, inviting the viewer into a world of suspension and stillness. Within the broader Fight or Flight framework of Jen Heads’ solo exhibition, this work explores the often-overlooked third biological response: freeze.

Just as the body may lock into paralysis when confronted by an overwhelming threat, this artwork evokes the hushed, weightless silence of being beneath the surface. The central Jen Head anchors the composition, while layered glass imagery floats around it in soft, dreamlike currents. Abstract forms and blue hues in mixed media are placed across the transparent planes, creating a sense of depth that shifts with each viewing angle.

About the Artist: Jenna Ingram is a versatile artist who earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from Canterbury University in 2007. Her creative journey has spanned various mediums and styles, including portraiture, landscapes and cityscapes. However, over the past eight years, she has dedicated her practice exclusively to urban art through her signature character, Jen Heads. This nature-inspired "mask" has undergone numerous iterations, reflecting Ingram's lived and artistic evolution. In addition to her work as an artist, Ingram has also been instrumental in managing her and her husband's business, Fiksate Gallery, further contributing to the urban contemporary art community.
