Jen Head - Back to my Garden
Glass Series 1.0
283mm W x 303mm H
Mixed media on 3 layers of glass, framed in a satin white profile with spacers.
About the Artwork: Back to my Garden reflects on the instinctive desire to retreat when faced with confrontation or threat, an echo of the “flight” response. Here, however, escape is not into fear or isolation, but into the imagination: a gentle wandering of the mind toward the places where peace and beauty reside.
At the centre sits the familiar black Jen Head, poised in stillness on the front layer of glass. Behind it, two transparent layers of glass carry a delicate arrangement of organic flora and fauna intermingled with abstract shapes. These elements drift upward and outward, rising to the right as if caught on a soft current. Their motion suggests thought, memory, and longing lifting away from tension, dissolving into the possibility of a dreamlike elsewhere.
The garden, both literal and symbolic, becomes a sanctuary, a space of grounding, renewal, and belonging. In this work, the act of “flight” transforms from a survival mechanism into a conscious turning toward nature and imagination, reminding us of the restorative places we carry within.
About the Artist: Jenna Ingram is a versatile artist who earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from Canterbury University in 2007. Her creative journey has spanned various mediums and styles, including portraiture, landscapes and cityscapes. However, over the past eight years, she has dedicated her practice exclusively to urban art through her signature character, Jen Heads. This nature-inspired "mask" has undergone numerous iterations, reflecting Ingram's lived and artistic evolution. In addition to her work as an artist, Ingram has also been instrumental in managing her and her husband's business, Fiksate Gallery, further contributing to the urban contemporary art community.
