Jen Heads - Implosion VS. Explosion

Glass Series: 1.0

283mm W x 303mm H

Mixed media on 3 layers of glass and backing board, framed in a satin white profile with spacers.

About the Artwork: The most visually intense and chaotic work in the new Jen Heads layered glass series, Implosion VS. Explosion radiates urgency and raw emotional energy. A neon pink vinyl-cut Jen Head sits starkly on the front layer of glass, calm, symmetrical, and contained, acting as a threshold between inner turmoil and external perception.

Behind this still façade, two glass layers erupt with a frenetic array of forms: surreal, pattern-filled shapes, silhouetted flora and fauna, jagged lines, and amorphous, blobby squiggles in clashing colours. These elements burst upwards with directional force, like an internal detonation, symbolising the complex collision of thoughts, emotions, memories, and instincts in moments of psychological unrest or transformation.

A fourth background layer, an intense gold-to-yellow gradient, adds to the sense of combustion. This radiant backdrop glows through the transparent layers, evoking heat, pressure, and the volatile beauty of a mind in motion.

Inner Fight is a vivid exploration of internal conflict and the moment of psychic rupture, where the subconscious bursts through the surface in a riot of form, colour, and symbolic chaos.

About the Artist: Jenna Ingram is a versatile artist who earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from Canterbury University in 2007. Her creative journey has spanned various mediums and styles, including portraiture, landscapes and cityscapes. However, over the past eight years, she has dedicated her practice exclusively to urban art through her signature character, Jen Heads. This nature-inspired "mask" has undergone numerous iterations, reflecting Ingram's lived and artistic evolution. In addition to her work as an artist, Ingram has also been instrumental in managing her and her husband's business, Fiksate Gallery, further contributing to the urban contemporary art community.
